Our guest, Rusty Ryal, got into copywriting after he retired from baseball. Ray Edwards has taken him under his wing, and he’s been his apprentice for about four years. He talks about copyrighting and makes an amazing offer at the end of the show, so make sure to tune in!

We all are writing copies — whether for a solo ad, a web page or long sales form copies. Some do it poorly and some have natural flair, but copywriting is intimidating for people who do not have training. But whatever form it is you are trying to write, you should be able to convey your major points quickly and succinctly. Below are some tips to write good copies:

Do not be the hero in the copy – sometimes, we are so close to our business and are so comfortable talking about it that we forget that the people we are selling it to are the heroes.  We are just giving them an avenue to realize that they need your product — emotionally first, and then justify with logic later.

So be careful how you are positioning your message. Lay out the benefits for how it's going to help them, overcome objections with social proof and always position yourself as a guide in your message.

Know who you're selling to – know who your market is and sell them what they want, not what they need. If you don't know who you're writing to, you're going to have tough times selling to them. Some ways to find out what they want is through research. Go to a Facebook group, get on a page on a forum, use Google for keywords that you're trying to figure out what your audience may be talking about…

Copywriting is 80% research, once you know your clientele and what they like, what they don't like, what they need and what they want, structuring your words will be easier.

The voice – if you can’t find your voice, just talk. Record what you're saying and there’s your voice. Don’t overcomplicate it. Sometimes, we think that we must change into something but actually, your voice is the voice that you use every day. Establish your voice and keep it consistent so people can resonate with it.
